KUCHING, Nov 8: The Sessions Court here sentenced a 27-year-old man to seven years’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old neighbour.
Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yusoff found the 27-year-old accused guilty of the charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 after a full trial.
Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 carries a jailterm of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
Judge Mohd Taufik ordered the jailterm to run from the date of arrest, May 15, 2021 and ordered the accused to undergo counselling after serving his jail sentence and to be placed under police supervision for two years.
He was found guilty of sexually assaulting the victim, who was 13-years-old at the time in the victim’s bedroom at a house in Jalan Foochow, at about 2am on May 13, 2021.
According to the brief facts of the case, the victim was sleeping with her sister in their room. The accused suddenly went into her room, sat on the victim’s body, hugged her and kissed her lips.
A police report was lodged, and the accused was arrested on May 15, 2021.
