KUCHING, Oct 28: An additional batch of 234,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines arrived at Kuching International Airport yesterday for the vaccination booster shot programme in Sarawak.
The State had on Oct 15 received 198,900 doses of the vaccine as part of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) for the booster shot programme in Sarawak.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian in a social media post today said with the additional doses which added up to more than 600,000 doses in total, Sarawak will have adequate vaccines to provide booster shots for all high risk vulnerable groups.
These include senior citizens aged 60 and above, those who are below 60-years-old with comorbidities and frontliners (medical and non-medical).
“Very privileged in Sarawak, now vaccines are waiting for people (dose 3). In many parts of the world, people are waiting for vaccines (even dose 1),” he said in a Facebook post today.
He noted that more than 10,000 individuals had been vaccinated with the booster shots.
With the arrival of more vaccines, Dr Sim said it is now time to scale up the booster shot programme in Sarawak so that the State can boost the immunity of vulnerable groups against severe Covid-19 infection.
He advised those in high risk vulnerable groups to play their role and get their booster dose once they have received notifications on their appointment from the MySejahtera app.
