20yo man under investigation for making false motorcycle theft report

The man has been charged for lodging a false police report over a stolen motorcycle.

KUCHING, Oct 18: A 20-year-old man is under investigation for making a false police report, claiming that his grandfather’s motorcycle was stolen near the Bintawa bridge.

According to Kuching Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah, the police investigation has found that the suspect fabricated the entire incident, as the motorcycle was actually left parked at a place of worship in Jalan Lumba Kuda.

The man filed this misleading police report on Oct 16.

“An investigation paper has been initiated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of RM2,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both, if convicted,” Ahsmon said in a statement yesterday (Oct 17).

The police has warned the public of the consequences of making false police reports or providing false information, which can create a negative perception of crime in Kuching District.

“The police will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone who commits such an offence,” he added. — DayakDaily
