KUCHING, June 19: Two elderly men in their 80s, who were residents of a nursing home at Iris Garden here that has been declared as the epicentre of a Covid-19 cluster recently have died from the disease, bringing the number of deaths linked to the cluster to three.
They were among the five Covid-19 fatalities reported in Sarawak today that has pushed the death toll in the State to 378.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the two elderly persons, aged 84 and 87-years-old, passed away on June 18 and 14 respectively.
The 84-year-old had comorbidities with hypertension and diabetes, while the 87-year-old was a patient who needed assistance and support for daily living.
The Iris Garden Cluster was among the two elderly nursing homes which were identified as Covid-19 clusters two days ago, with the other was dubbed the Jalan Stampin Cluster.
On June 17, the Iris Garden Cluster recorded eight positive cases and one death, while the Jalan Stampin Cluster has 18 positive cases so far.
The remaining three fatalities were reported in Sibu involving three women aged 46, 55 and 80 years old, with all of them comorbid and had passed away on June 17, June 10 and May 23 respectively.
Sarawak also recorded 550 recoveried today, thus increasing the number of patients who have recovered and discharged to 48,682 or 82.32 per cent of total positive Covid-19 cases in the State.
A total of 9,951 active cases are still being treated and isolated at various healthcare facilities throughout Sarawak.— DayakDaily
