SIMUNJAN, Oct 21: A fatal road accident at Jalan Kampung Pelaie, Simunjan, has claimed two lives today.
According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call regarding the incident at 2.42pm before despatching two teams of firefighters from Simunjan and Serian Fire Stations (BBPs) to the scene.
Operation commander Nazari Haron said upon Bomba’s arrival, they discovered two victims were trapped underneath a 4×4 Hilux vehicle, which was overturned.
The two victims, identified as Blayau Datu, 83, and Awang Pupon, 63, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rescue personnel used specialised tools to extricate the victims, with the first body recovered at 5pm and the second body five minutes later.
“It was reported that the vehicle was carrying ten passengers in total—five were unharmed while three others sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby clinic by residents.
“Medical personnel from Klinik Kesihatan Munggu Lalang confirmed the deaths of the two trapped victims at the scene,” he said. — DayakDaily
