KUCHING, April 6: Sarawak Metro has received two bids for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project’s System Package 1 tender.
The KUTS Project’s System Package 1 tender is for the supply of Rolling Stock (hydrogen-powered ART vehicles), Depot Equipment & Maintenance Vehicles (DEMV), Signalling & Control System (S&CS), and Automatic Platform Gate (APG).
One of the bids is from CRRC (Hong Kong) Co Limited, CHEC Construction (M) Sdn Bhd, and KACC Construction Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company.
The other bid is from the joint venture company comprising EPR (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Global Rail Sdn Bhd, and Mobilus Sdn Bhd.
Each joint venture must include a Sarawak partner as a requirement of the tender exercise.
KACC Construction Sdn Bhd and EPR (Kuching) Sdn Bhd are two Sarawak-based joint ventures involved in this tender.
A third joint venture company, which had previously expressed a third interest in participating in the tender, did not submit a bid by the closing date of March 31, 2022.
The contract will be awarded to the successful bidder in the second quarter of this year.
Sarawak Metro, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), advertised for rolling stock vendors in both international and national publications in mid-2021.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Metro will call for tenders for System Package 2 of the KUTS Project (Phase 1) in the second quarter of 2022.
This package includes the Communication System (COMMS), the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFC), the Information Technology System (ITS), the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and the Operation Control Centre (OCC).
The KUTS Project will be developed in phases, with Phase 1 involving the development of two lines: the Samarahan Line (28km) from Rembus to the city centre, and the Serian Line (24km) from the 12th Mile Kuching-Serian Expressway to the Isthmus.
The ART’s passenger service will be introduced in stages beginning in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The development of the KUTS Project is regarded as a “gamechanger”, and Sarawak Metro is committed to improving mobility in Greater Kuching while also assisting in the realisation of Sarawak’s hydrogen economy agenda and addressing the global issue of climate change. — DayakDaily
