KUCHING, Jan 10: A 19-year-old male teenager pleaded guilty to raping his 12-year-old girlfriend in December last year.
The admission of guilt came immediately after the charges under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code were read in the Sessions Court here, before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.
The accused was charged with raping a 12-year-old girl under the stairs of a flat in Matang at around 2.30am on December 10, 2023.
If convicted, the teenager faces the possibility of imprisonment for up to 20 years and also corporal punishment.
The judge ordered the accused to be remanded until the presentation of the latter’s social report on February 8.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is also the victim’s grandmother, was informed that the victim had engaged in a sexual relationship with her boyfriend. The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital for an examination.
An obstetrics and gynecology expert confirmed the presence of injuries to the victim’s hymen.
A police report was filed by the complainant, leading to further investigation and the subsequent arrest of the accused.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
