KUCHING, July 21: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched for a 15-year-old boy who was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Seterap in Pantu, Simanggang, today.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.35pm, and firefighters from the Sri Aman station were deployed.
The victim’s mother reported that the victim—identified as Taufik Ezany Abdullah—along with seven others, were travelling in four boats to carry out fishing activities using cast nets at Sungai Seterap.
While carrying out the activity, the cast net was believed to become snagged on a submerged log in the river, prompting the victim to dive into the water to free the net but did not resurface.
The victim’s uncle informed the victim’s cousin of the incident, and they suspected the victim had been attacked by a crocodile after a crocodile was seen surfacing not far from the location where the incident occurred.
Bomba, together with the police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and villagers, conducted a water surface search at the last known location where the victim was seen.
The search involved one APM boat and six boats operated by villagers.
It was also noted that the victim was last seen wearing a white shirt and a pair of long black trousers. — DayakDaily
