KUCHING, July 21: Sarawak youths must aspire to become creators of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies rather than merely consumers if the State is to achieve its ambition of becoming a developed region by 2030, Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says.
In his Sarawak Day message, Wan Junaidi called on parents, educators, educational institutions and young Sarawakians to prioritise knowledge and equip themselves with skills in science, technology, engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), the digital economy and innovation.
Noting that the world is changing at a rapid pace, Wan Junaidi said young Sarawakians must not only keep up with technological advances but also take the lead in developing innovative solutions, exploring new opportunities and driving the State’s future.
“I hope more Sarawakian youths will seize opportunities in high-technology industries, the green economy, renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI), research and development, as well as other strategic sectors that are expanding rapidly at the global level.
“Let us not merely become users of technology created by others, but strive to become creators, researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs and leaders capable of producing innovations and solutions that benefit society,” he said.
According to him, the foundation of Sarawak’s long-term development lies in its people with sustained investment in education, skills and human capital essential to building a developed, prosperous and resilient State.
The TYT said a developed Sarawak is defined not only by its infrastructure and economic achievements, but more importantly by the quality of its people, their knowledge, integrity and commitment to society.
“True progress is measured through a knowledgeable, ethical and united society that respects one another and is always ready to serve for the wellbeing of Sarawak,” he said.
He urged all Sarawakians to unite in support of the State government’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, saying the vision of a developed and prosperous Sarawak would require the commitment and cooperation of every segment of society.
In conjunction with Sarawak Day, Wan Junaidi said the annual celebration serves as an important platform to educate younger generations about the significance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and reinforce Sarawak’s status as an equal partner in the Federation of Malaysia.
He said the annual celebration is not merely a public holiday but a reminder of Sarawak’s journey in preserving its dignity and identity while shaping its own future.
Wan Junaidi also called on Sarawakians to continue safeguarding the unity and harmony that have long underpinned the State’s stability and development.
“Let us move forward with confidence, preserve the unity that is our strength, and continue working together to build a Sarawak that is more advanced, more prosperous and more peaceful for today’s generation and those to come,” he said. — DayakDaily
