BAU, June 20: A total of 147 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bau received Form 6 Certificates for 2021 at the school’s 18th Convocation Ceremony at Bau Civic Centre on Friday (June 17).
Of that number, 12 are students in the Science stream while the remaining 135 are from the Arts stream.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport who is also the Tasik Biru assemblyman, Dato Henry Harry Jinep, was present to officiate at the ceremony.
In his speech, he revealed that the Sarawak government is aware of the Internet coverage issue in Bau district.
“The government has announced such a large allocation to build towers and infrastructure so that Internet services can reach every corner of the rural areas in Bau, but the implementation is so ‘sad’.
“This is because due to the lack of experts and contractors in building the infrastructure, it has become a constraint faced throughout Sarawak and the construction could not be accelerated,” he said.
During the same speech, Henry later announced that he had approved an allocation of RM20,000 via Minor Rural Project (MRP) for 2023 to the SMK Bau Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG).
At the ceremony, he also lauded excellent achievers in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) exam as well as the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for 2019 and 2020.
Also present were SMK Bau principal Patrick Nojey, Bau District Education Officer (PPD) Edward Ngelai, SMK Bau’s PIBG president Young Ebot and SMK Bau Alumni Association chairman Anat Litis. — DayakDaily
