KUCHING, April 2: Malaysians returning to the country will be quarantined for 14 days, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The compulsory 14-day quarantine will take effect starting tomorrow, he added.

The authorities will monitor all entry points, from Johor to the northern peninsula states, and Sabah and Sarawak, to ensure Malaysians arriving from foreign countries by land, air or sea, would be sent straight to quarantine.

“The moment they arrive in the country, transportation will be provided to send the affected individuals to the respective quarantine centre.

“A special task force at the quarantine centre will take care of their well being, making sure they have sufficient food and essential items,” he said at the daily Covid-19 (non-health) press conference at Putrajaya today.

Meanwhile, on the sanitisation of public places, Ismail Sabri said 348 areas across the country have been identified for disinfection exercises.

Since March 27, a total of 252 areas have been sanitised including 93 yesterday and 46 today.

“On advice from the Health Ministry, a standard operating procedure (SOP) has been developed for Covid-19 sanitising work, as we received many public complaints on the sanitising procedures including safety aspects,” continued the defence minister.

He added that after sanitising work, the government will look into carrying out the exercise in housing areas from door-to-door. — DayakDaily
