MIRI, Oct 29: Free pet microchips were implanted in dogs during the mass vaccination programme held in Miri Division, as part of efforts to contain the rabies outbreak.
Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin who is also Senadin assemblyman said, during a two-day mass vaccination programme held in Senadin, which started yesterday, 122 dogs receiving the rabies vaccines were implanted with pet microchips.
“These microchips were given out free along with the rabies vaccines to track dogs’ movement,” he told reporters today, after visiting the mass vaccination programme in Senadin conducted by Miri Veterinary Department (DVS).
Lee also commended Miri DVS for their swift response in carrying out the mass vaccination programme in this division after Marudi was identified as a rabies infection area, in August this year.
“DVS has carried out mass vaccination programme in various places or locations in Miri during the period of August until today, namely in Taman Tunku, Desa Senadin, Taman Awam, Miri Stadium, and next month (November) at Simpang Bekenu,” he said.
At the same time, Lee told the media, Miri City Council (MCC) is also giving out dog licences to pet owners during the mass vaccination programme.
