KUCHING, Dec 13: A total of 110 units of Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) in Kemuyang, Sibu are now ready for occupancy.

Built by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), RSP Kemuyang Sibu will house the extended families of fire victims from Kampung Dato, Kampung Hilir, Kampung Nyabor and Kampung Bandong in Sibu where a total of 813 lots have been allocated for development.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said all units are priced at a range of RM90,000 to RM160,000 with the issuance of Occupancy Permit (OP) has begun on Oct 25.

“This is our initiative where we build a house that has traditional architecture with pillars so that the occupants can later make structural changes by adding walls and transform the house into a bungalow,” he said when speaking during his working visit to RSP Kemuyang Sibu today.

The RSP programme was first announced by Abang Johari in Lundu on Feb 15, 2017.

It is a housing programme under the State government to help families from the B40 and M40 groups to own a house.

“During the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), we planned to build 2,470 units of RSP throughout Sarawak, at a cost of RM259 million.

“An addition of 1,820 units of RSP houses are planned to be built under the 12MP period (2021-2025) but Insya-Allah, we will build more (houses) for the sake of our people with the money that we were able to generate and increase in the State’s revenue,” he added.

To date, 892 RSP units have been completed, namely RSP Lundu, Sematan, Kemuyang, Darul Hana, Bunga Rampai, Igan, Tian and Kpg Dato.

Abang Johari also reminded the locals that the State government has set aside an allocation of RM10 million under the 2022 Sarawak Budget for the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS).

The scheme will provide assistance of up to RM10,000 to first-time homeowners under the B40 and M40 categories for payment of housing deposits.

The scheme will be managed by Mutiara Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd (Mutiara), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). — DayakDaily
