KUCHING, April 30: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing warns that there will be no tolerance for lawbreakers and that no individual, regardless of their connections, will be exempted from legal consequences if they threaten public safety.

“As the Member of Parliament for Bintulu, I would like to remind you that if anyone wants to take over the duties of the authorities, implement the law themselves or use force to resolve disputes, no matter who you are or who is behind you, strict action will be taken if you threaten public safety,” Tiong said in a Facebook post, referring to a recent brawl at an entertainment centre in Bintulu which resulted in the death of a local man.

He noted that authorities have already identified the individuals involved in the fight. He has also requested the police to carry out a thorough investigation and question all individuals involved, with assistance from the suspects’ parents.

Tiong further issued a stern warning for youths to tamp down their ego and not act as they please, regardless of their background or connection.

“No matter what your background is, even if I know you personally, if you break the law, you will have to face the consequences.

“Some of us may have made mistakes in the past, but that is not the end of life. If you are willing to change the situation and leave the past behind, opportunities are always open.

“However, if you continue to act recklessly, use violence and project the ‘magnificence’ of the group you are a part of, I am sure that second chances will not come. If this message resonates with you, think carefully before you act.”

The MP also challenged legal professionals who defend those accused of crimes, questioning their motives: “To legal professionals, I would like to ask: are you truly defending justice or are you just defending the wrongdoers? Or is it just for the money?

“You need to take a moment to reflect on what your role is in shaping our society.”
Tiong further urged all residents of Bintulu to play an active role in safeguarding the community.

“It is our collective responsibility to make Bintulu a safer, more just place for everyone. We must reject any threats that stand in the way of that goal,” he added. – DayakDaily
