KUCHING, July 23: Zecon Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary, Zecon Renewables Sdn Bhd, has secured a RM328 million engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract to develop a 100-megawatt alternating current (MWac) agrivoltaics solar photovoltaic (PV) facility at the Kota Petra Green Technology Park in Sarawak.

According to a report by news portal The Edge, the Sarawak-based group said the contract was awarded by sister company Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, the independent power producer for the project.

Under the contract, Zecon Renewables will undertake the construction of the solar PV plant and related infrastructure, including grid connection facilities, a proposed 130-metre bridge across Sungai Serai, as well as site infrastructure and earthworks.

The company said the project marks the first phase of the renewable energy development planned for the Kota Petra Green Technology Park.

Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) holds a 30-year electricity licence for the project and signed a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Syarikat Sesco Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Bhd, in October 2025.

The agreement covers the design, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of the solar facility, with commercial operations scheduled to commence by Dec 31, 2027.

Beyond the initial phase, Zecon said it also holds a separate 30-year electricity licence issued by the Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication that allows for the development of an additional 300MWac of solar generation capacity.

The additional capacity is intended to provide renewable electricity directly to future industrial tenants at the Kota Petra Green Technology Park, supported by a battery energy storage system alongside electricity supplied from the State grid.

According to the group, the combination of the PPA-backed first phase and the remaining licensed capacity is expected to provide stable contracted revenue while supporting future expansion as industrial demand at the green technology park grows.

Zecon shares closed unchanged at 48.5 sen on Thursday (July 23), giving the company a market capitalisation of RM76.4 million. — DayakDaily
