KUCHING, July 26: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) will be organising a webinar titled “Narrowing The Gap, Broadening The Unity” via Zoom and Facebook Live this Thursday (July 29).
The Foundation in a statement today said the webinar will be the second of a five-part series that will be held throughout the year.
The webinar will feature prominent speakers such as Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) commissioner Dato Dr Madeline Berma, Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association president Gary Ningkan, Universiti Malaya (UM) Asia-Europe Institute lecturer Assoc Prof Dr Fumitaka Furuoka, Shell digital analyst Jurleo Jurit and ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute senior fellow Dr Lee Hwok Aun.
The webinar will be moderated by Sarawak Development Institute’s deputy general manager Rosalind Wong.
“The goal of this webinar is to examine how the socio-economic divide among the various races and ethnicities affects national unity and integration in Malaysia.
“Participants will be able to examine the effects of the socio-economic divide between Sarawak and the rest of the country at the end of the webinar, as well as the best practices for bridging the gap,” YPS said.
The two-hour webinar is free and open to the public.
This webinar is part of a greater YPS project called Advancing Racial Cohesion and Harmony (ARCH) which aims to evaluate national unity in Sarawak as well as to assess inter-racial harmony among various ethnic groups present here.
In addition to the series of webinars, focus groups and round table discussions will be held throughout the State to better understand how Sarawakians perceive race relations and national integration in the context of Sarawak.
