MIRI, Jan 7: The Magistrate’s Court on Saturday (Jan 4) ordered four youths to be remanded for seven days until January 11 for drug possession to assist with police probes into the case.
All the suspects, including a female, were produced at Miri Magistrate Court on Saturday morning.
The remand was ordered by Magistrate Md Syafique Md Himie, after granting the remand application by the case investigation officer Inspector Mohd Muklis.
The accused included two juveniles aged 17, while the other two are aged 19 and 20.
All of them indicated by nodding that they understood the charges read by the court interpreter in Bahasa Malaysia.
On Friday (Jan 3), four youths including a woman, were detained and drugs worth RM14,000 were seized by the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) in two separate raids.
The first three suspects were apprehended at a house in Jalan Calycina, Pin Fook Garden around 11am, while the fourth suspect, a male known as ‘Don’, was detained five hours later the same day inside a parked car at Homelite condominium.
In the first raid conducted inside the house at Pin Fook Garden, police discovered illegal substances believed to be Methamphetamine (Syabu) weighing as much as 198.83 grammes.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been renting the double-storey house at Pin Fook Garden for about a year with rental price believed to be around RM1,200 per month.
Urine tests conducted on the suspects revealed that only one tested positive for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. —DayakDaily
