Youth fails in bid to escape during raid

MIRI, July 20: An unemployed youth tried to evade arrest during a drug raid Friday night by climbing up to the roof of a house but were caught by enforcement team from the Miri National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) eventually.

Miri AADK chief Mazlan Jikran revealed that the 26-year-old man was among the 27 individuals tested positive for drugs and arrested during two raids conducted in separate locations of Taman Desa Senadin and Kampung Wireless.

“A total 32 people aged between 13 to 60 years old were rounded during the six hours operation dubbed ‘Ops Bersepadu’ which started at 10.30pm and ended at 4am this morning,” he said.

A total of five agencies namely AADK Miri and Limbang, the Miri Immigration Department, Miri Welfare Department, Miri Resident Committee and Rela took part in the operations.

During the raid at one of the locations, Mazlan added that the team also discovered a married couple aged 26 and 25 years old were doing drugs while their nine-month old infant was crying for milk.

A family of eight were also arrested for drug abused. They included the 56-year-old father, his two sons (aged 29 and 26), daughter (25), son-in-law, his brother, niece and nephew.

All suspects are currently being detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 and the Immigration Act 1959/1963 under Section 51(5)(b) for further investigations. ā€” DayakDaily
