KUCHING, May 25: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Christopher Gira Sambang says the party’s younger leaders must take a more active role in shaping public perception and countering misinformation as digital platforms and social media increasingly influence the political landscape.

He said young leaders are no longer merely successors within the party, but are now central to determining PRS’ future direction.

“Young people today are not just future leaders, but are already determining the future of the party and Sarawak,” he said.

He said this during the PRS Pre-Gawai Dayak 2026 programme held in Sibu on Sunday (May 24).

The event was officiated by PRS president Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai who also called on party members to continue preserving unity and the party’s spirit of struggle amid current political challenges.

The programme gathered PRS leaders, elected representatives, grassroots leaders and party members from across Sarawak in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration.

Referring to the programme’s theme, “Besarakup Mai Pengelantang, Nuju Pemansang”, he said it reflected the importance of solidarity and collective effort within the party.

Christopher who is also Tamin assemblyman stressed that unity within PRS and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition remained the foundation of the coalition’s political strength ahead of the coming State election.

He said members must continue working together as one team to ensure the party remains stable, strong and trusted by the people.

He also warned against internal divisions, saying PRS would only continue to command respect and remain relevant if members stayed united.

“As long as we stand together, we will be strong. If we are divided, the party will weaken,” he said.

At the same time, he pledged that the PRS Youth wing would continue serving as a unifying force within the party rather than contributing to internal friction.

The Youth chief also urged members to place the party’s struggle above personal interests and resolve differences internally to preserve cohesion within PRS and GPS ahead of the next State election. — DayakDaily
