Young artists capture family reunion, togetherness in colouring contest for Mid-Autumn Festival

KUCHING, Sept 19: The Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance, and Music Association, in collaboration with Plaza Merdeka Mall, celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with an array of exciting events aimed at promoting tradition, culture, and the arts.

According to a press statement, the event, held from Sept 7 to Sept 21, was organised alongside the Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN).

The highlight of the festival was the Children’s Colouring Contest, held on Sept 14.

Over 50 young participants gathered to showcase their artistic flair, using vibrant colours to depict the theme of family reunion and togetherness, which is central to the Mid-Autumn celebration.

The competition was divided into two categories, with each group demonstrating incredible creativity and talent.

In Category A, Hayfa Bashirah binti Safit Affandi took the top prize, followed by Aesyah binti Mohd Ariff as the first runner-up and Chang Zi Heng as the second runner-up. Consolation prizes were awarded to Adora Tan Nian Tse, Bella Lai Yi Ning, and Sheneice Chai Xin Ni.

Meanwhile, in Category B, Hannie Ang emerged as the winner, with Chin Kah Xin as the first runner-up and Celine Wong Hui Ci securing the second runner-up position. Consolation prizes went to Jarell Chong Yan Shen, Alice Tin Ning, and Emmy Liew En Yu.

In addition to the colouring contest, the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration included a Gifted Art Exhibition and various competitions such as lantern-making, singing, and Cheongsam contests.

Dato Sim Kiang Chiok, Chairman of the Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance and Music Association, expressed his appreciation to the sponsors, participants, and volunteers.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, participants, volunteers, and the generous public for their support, especially for the special children and young adults.

“Congratulations to all the winners across our various competitions,” he said.
