Yong Arifah wins Sarawak’s first medal in 2022 Sukma with wushu bronze

KUCHING, Sept 15: Sarawak’s wushu athletes have bagged one silver and two bronze medals for this year’s Sukma tournament.

Yong Arifah Khairul Kok, 23, won the Sarawak contingent’s first medal with her bronze medal when she garnered 9.5830 points in the women’s taijijian event at Gymnasium 2 in Bukit Jalil yesterday (Sept 14).

National athlete Sydney Chin Sy Xuan from Melaka won the gold medal with 9.643 points while Mandy Cabelle Chang from Negeri Sembilan took the silver with 9.6200 points.

Sarawak wushu’s second bronze was contributed by Edwin Wong Sing Yew who scored a total of 9.6060 points in the men’s daoshu event.

Tan Zhen Jie from Johor bagged the gold with 9.6500 points and Tan Cheong Wan from Melaka got the silver with 9.6460 points.

Meanwhile, the silver medal was won by Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern who garnered 9.6060 points in the women’s jianshu event.

Tammy Tan Hui Ling from Melaka won gold with 9.6330 points while Pang Pui Yee from Negeri Sembilan was third with 9.5430 points.

According to news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak was in third place in the 2022 Sukma with one silver and two bronzes as of 8pm last night.

Melaka was in the top position with five gold, two silver and one bronze while Johor was second with four gold and three silver. — DayakDaily
