KUCHING, April 4: Scholarships and loans provided by Yayasan Sarawak are for all deserving Sarawakians, says board of trustees member Dato Richard Wee.
In a statement, Wee said he would do his best to discharge his duty and reflect the aspirations and changing perceptions of the community.
“This is to ensure that the scholarship and student loans provided by Yayasan Sarawak are for all deserving Sarawakians irrespective of race and creed as long as the criteria and standards are fulfilled and met.
“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to serve on the board of Yayasan Sarawak,” he said.
Wee was appointed as a new member of Yayasan Sarawak’s board of trustees, as revealed by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian in a Facebook post on Jan 15.
Wee, who is also the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions president and Kuching Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No. 1, 3 and 4’s Board of Management Committee chairman, is among community leaders who have been vocal on pushing the federal government to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
On Jan 22, Wee also expressed his hope as a member of Yayasan Sarawak’s board of trustees to act as a bridge between the institution and Chinese schools in the region as his appointment would allow him to relay information on the status of the Chinese schools. — DayakDaily
