KUCHING, March 3: The World Bidayuh Golf Championship (WGBC) will return this year after a three-year hiatus.

Togap Golf Club president Dr Simon Sinang Bada said this 16th edition of the WGBC is scheduled to be held in early June in conjunction with the Gawai celebrations.

“We will keep all members updated on the date, venue and others matters. Togap will be the organiser for this year’s WBGC,” he said in a statement yesterday after leading a Togap delegation to pay a courtesy call on Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Also present was Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, who was part of the Togap delegation.

Dr Sinang, who is Tebedu asseblyman, said the meeting with Sagah was to brief him on the WBGC.

“He (Sagah) has accepted our invitation for him to be our WBGC patron. He expressed his willingness to sponsor the WBGC,” he said.

He also informed that another event prior to WBGC will be Togap President Cup which will be held prior to the Club’s annual general meeting in May.

“Our youth programme will also resume this year,” he added.

The WBGC was first held in 2005, and had attracted more than 100 participants in its recent editions prior to the pandemic.

The participants included Bidayuhs who have domiciled elsewhere, who made the trip back to Kuching to play in the tournament. — DayakDaily
