Works on hydrogen-powered ART to start in Sept 2022

KUCHING, July 8: Physical works of the hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) in Kuching is expected to commence by September this year.

Sarawak Metro director of Corporate Communication, SEED Programme and Bumiputera Relations, Alexius Barieng said following this, city folk will be able to see the appearance of the first hydrogen-powered ART vehicle by the second half of next year.


“The first ride of ART will probably happen by the fourth quarter of 2025.

“However, we are still expecting to finish the whole Kuching public transportation system project by 2027,” he said at ‘Sarawak Metro Night with The Media’ held at Grand Margherita Hotel here earlier tonight.

Alexius further said that the hydrogen-powered ART will not only be a first in Kuching or Sarawak but a first in the whole world.

“That is something we are really proud of (which is) not just for technical advancement but we believe this will be beneficial for the people of Kuching in terms of improving the public transport system,” he added.

He also mentioned that Sarawakians can anticipate for a big news that will be announced by Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg with regards to Sarawak Metro project in two weeks time. — DayakDaily
