KUCHING, May 8: Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has vehemently denied allegations linking him to a corruption scandal involving the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah (WP35) project, calling the accusations “defamatory, baseless and malicious.”
In a statement posted on his social media today, Nanta expressed deep concern over the circulation of a message believed to have originated from a Telegram channel, which directly accused him of corrupt practices in relation to the project.
He noted that the message has since been widely shared across multiple social media platforms, which could create negative perceptions and prejudices among the society.
“I take note of the spread of messages claiming my involvement in the corruption scandal involving the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway (WP35) project.
“As a politician and a member of the government administration who always upholds the trust and is committed to taking care of the interests of the people and the country, these allegations not only bring down my image and integrity, but also tarnish the reputation of the Ministry of Works and the Malaysia government as a whole,” he said.
Nanta stated that his Senior Private Secretary has lodged a police report at the Tun H.S. Lee Police Station on his behalf yesterday (May 7), urging authorities to immediately launch an investigation to identify the source of the slanderous message and take appropriate action.
“I will give my full commitment to cooperate in any form to assist the investigation,” he assured, adding that he has full confidence in the authorities to uphold justice.
Nanta emphasised that the use of slander for political gain or personal agendas should never be tolerated.
“Slander cannot be a tool to bring down the reputation of any individual,” he said. — DayakDaily
