KUCHING, May 8: LED street lights have been installed on the newly opened access road in Batu Kawa, linking Jalan Ensing Timur to Jalan Datuk Temenggong Tan Men Chong/Jalan Stapok Utama junction, at a cost of RM76,060 to enhance road safety for motorists, particularly at night.

According to Sarawak Deputy Premier and Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the installation follows his request to the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) after he officiated the opening of the RM2.02 million road on November 24, 2024. He noted that the new road initially lacked any street lighting.

“Thanks to MPP and Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO) for finally implementing the request for the benefit of the local community,” Dr Sim said in a Facebook post today.

This marks the third new access road introduced in the N14 Batu Kawa constituency since 2016.

The first was an alternative route to New Taman Kwang Tiong, opened in 2021 and scheduled for an upgrade later this year as part of the Second Batu Kawa Bridge project.

The second road, opened in 2023, connects Lorong 22 Desa Wira to Kuching City Mall.

Dr Sim also invited the public to suggest potential names for the three new access roads. — DayakDaily
