KUCHING, Jan 28: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng appeals to the general public to be generous and caring towards the less fortunate.
“We would like to appeal to all the public to do this and be a caring society,” he said, quoting an African proverb: “If you want to run fast, run alone. If you want to run far, run together.”
Wee said this to reporters after officiating at the MBKS Caring Society Programme and giving away Chinese New Year goodies to 530 residents at KMC Flat here today.
“Let us work together, as the government alone is not able to reach out to so many people who are having any form of hardships.
“Bear in mind, there are certain groups of people out there still suffering, they still need our care, they still need our help,” he lamented.
Wee cited various volunteers and artists who came forward to offer help to the needy and thanked them for their generosity.
Expressing his hope that such a programme would continue annually, he expressed gratitude to the Sarawak government for allocating a special community grant to MBKS for this purpose. — DayakDaily
