KUCHING, Dec 6: Work to widen the road from the Yayasan Sarawak junction at Jalan Sultan Tengah all the way to Damai to dual-carriageway will start next year.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this comes as part of the infrastructure projects planned for Santubong.
“Firstly, we will widen the road to dual-carriageway from Yayasan Sarawak and the Wisma Adenan building up to Damai.
“We will also construct a bicycle lane up to Damai. This work will begin next year,” he said during the Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) Dinner held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here earlier tonight.
The project has long been awaited by the locals residing along the said road and villages in Santubong.
Talk about the project even dates back to when Abang Johari was the tourism minister.
Among other projects for Santubong, whether ongoing or still in planning, are the construction of a new settlement near Samariang, sports facility which houses a badminton court, Wisma Melayu Sarawak at Jalan Bako, Rambungan Bridge, and i-Cats University College campus at Kpg Trombol.
Amongst those present were the Premier’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Minister of Utilities Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who is also in charge of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Islamic Affairs, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, DBKU Mayor Datu Junaidi Reduan, and DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang. — DayakDaily
