Woman sentenced to 30 months’ jail for cheap flights con

KUCHING, Nov 6: A former budget airlines staff was sentenced to imprisonment of 30 months and a fine of RM2,000 or in default imprisonment for 60 days respectively at the Magistrates Court here today.

The accused, Alfizah Ahmad, 36, from Kampung Gersik, was charged with deceiving others to believe that she is able to purchase cheaper flight tickets for them as she worked with a budget airline company. She charged with three counts of cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

Magistrate Faelly Jeffrey Lanjungan meted the sentence of 30 months’ imprisonment and a fine of RM,2000 or in default imprisonment for 60 days for each charge. The magistrate ordered the sentences to run concurrently but to run consecutively with jail time from an earlier conviction.

According to the facts of the case, a complainant lodged a police report on September 27, 2017 stating that she made payments via online transfer on April 9, 2017, August 24 and August 28 to the accused for booking of return flight tickets from Kuching to Melbourne. The trip was scheduled from September 16, 2017 until September 22, 2017.

According to the complainant, the accused had informed her that she could purchase flight tickets at a cheaper price as she worked with a budget airline company.

The complainant was attracted by the offer and decided to purchase the flight tickets from her and made payment of RM2,137 to the accused via online transfer. — DayakDaily
