KUCHING, Feb 28: A 27-year-old woman had to pay a fine of RM1,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The accused was ordered by the Kuching Court Magistrate Zaitun Annuar to pay the fine after she was found guilty to the offense committed under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1957.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement said that Sinta Richard committed the offense at 12.15 am on Aug 31, 2018, when she was tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol exceeding the allowed limit during an “OPS Mabuk” traffic inspection that was held along Jalan Batu Kawa.
According to Alexson, a team of police led by ASP Franklin Kemping was doing their work during the “OPS Mabuk” traffic inspection in Jalan MJC, in Batu Kawa, when they stopped a compact vehicle driven by the accused.
“After that, a breathalyzer test conducted on the suspect by Constable Hendry Keri using SD-2+ tools, shown a positive result, and the accused was brought to Batu Kawa police station for further breathalyzer test using Lion Alcolmeter EBA-II, conducted by Sargeant Raymond Edward Sumek.
“As the result of further tests, it showed that the alcohol content inside the accused was at 83/100 ml, which is 3 mg over the allowed per 100 ml limit, that is 80/100 ml in blood,” he said.
Alexson added that investigation found that the accused has committed an offense under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for under the influence of liquor or drugs, and can be punished with a fine not exceeding RM1,000 and shall also be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months. —DayakDaily
