KUCHING, Feb 28: Following the exit of state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief Baru Bian recently, PKR Batang Sadong affirmed that it remained ‘business as usual’ for the party in Sarawak.

In a statement, PKR Batang Sadong’s branch chief Piee Ling said Baru’s resignation as chairman would not affect the party’s operations in Sarawak.

He explained that the state leadership was being taken over by the central committee following a meeting with PKR’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution in Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon.

According to Piee, the central leadership is expected to make an announcement soon on who will helm the state PKR.

Those who attended the meeting yesterday were Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh who represented the Batang Lupar branch, Jalil (Mukah); Joshua Jabeng (Selangau); Ahmad Nazib Johari (Santubong) and Mohdar Ismail (Sibuti).

He stated that PKR Sarawak can still function as normal at the branch level despite the exit of Baru, Ali Biju and Willie Mongin as the trio’s roles were appointed by the party’s central committee and not by the president.

He pointed out that most of the supporters, including those for Baru, Ali and Willie, joined PKR because they believed in the agenda which the party was fighting for.

Looking ahead, he stated that PKR Sarawak will also be working with Pakatan Harapan in Sarawak in preparation for the upcoming state elections which due next year. —DayakDaily
