KUCHING, April 2: A 35-year-old woman has received a one-month jail sentence and a RM1,800 fine from the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today for stealing raw chicken and cake-making ingredients from a supermarket on Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
Siti Amira Kamronny pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine.
The court heard that the incident occurred on March 29, 2024, at 12.09pm.
The theft was witnessed by a supermarket employee who observed Kamronny pushing a trolley filled with groceries towards the elevator without going through checkout.
The employee apprehended Kamronny and brought her to the supermarket’s security room, where a police report was subsequently filed, and Kamronny was arrested.
Investigations revealed that Kamronny admitted to stealing the items due to financial difficulties in purchasing ingredients for baking cookies and traditional cakes for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
Kamronny was not represented by a lawyer during the hearing, while the prosecution was handled by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin. — DayakDaily
