SIBU, May 11: A female clerk was cheated of RM38,207 in an online job scam.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said they received a report lodged by the 30-year-old victim yesterday, claiming that she had been conned in a job scam.

“The victim’s ordeal began on May 9 when she saw an advertisement that offered part-time jobs on her Facebook account. Subsequently she clicked a link that connected to the suspect’s WhatsApp,” he said.

The woman was told that the job entailed making hotel bookings where she would be paid RM388 for every five bookings.

“As she was attracted by the good money, she transferred RM38,207 to five different account numbers,” said Zulkipli.

However, the woman realised that she had been cheated when she failed to receive the said payment.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
