Woman dead after vehicle catches fire near Selangau flyover

KUCHING, July 12: A 49-year-old woman was killed after becoming trapped in a burning vehicle following an incident at the Selangau flyover along Jalan Sibu-Bintulu this evening.

In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 7.22pm, and firefighters from the Selangau station were deployed.

It was noted that the fire involved the engine compartment and front section of the sedan and that the victim, identified as Simbut Sigai, was trapped in the driver’s seat.

Firefighters carried out extinguishing works using one first-aid hose line (SBM) and then conducted a rescue operation using specialised Road Traffic Accident (RTA) equipment to extricate the victim.

Health Ministry personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and the body was later handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
