MIRI, Feb 27: Miri’s newly launched Wireless Walk along North Yu Seng Road would be the latest landmark for the ‘Resort City’.

Hence, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg suggested that a portion of North Yu Seng Road be closed to for traffic every weekend so that it could become a recreational spot not only for locals but tourists, similar to what is practiced in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia.

“I believe it could help spur Miri’s tourism sector,” he opined.

As he sees that the spot would be further developed into a crucial tourist attraction for Miri, Abang Johari has emphasised the need to install a closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system to help monitor people’s movement.

“On the cost, the state government can help fund the installations,” he said.

Speaking at the launching of the Wireless Walk on Wednesday night (Feb 26) , Abang Johari reckoned that this new spot would transform the city into a more vibrant city in future.

Wireless Walk Miri is a RM3.3 million upgrading project fully funded by the State government and was inspired by the commercial area in Jalan Alor Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur.

“Wireless Walk would make Miri a vibrant city, and the state government has long term planning to transform the city,” he reckoned.
