KUCHING, Oct 16: Following the placing of a metal road cover crossing over the culvert along Jalan Liu Shan Bang of Mile 7 town area, the road is now open to traffic.

According to Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, the result was the contractor’s non-stop 15-hour effort to lay the culvert crossing. The road was closed previously to allow the implementation of the Mile 7 flood mitigation project.

The area has been plagued by flash floods during the rainy season for more than 10 years. Prior to the project, Yap asked the community to look at the bigger picture and to be patient with the short-term inconveniences for long-term benefits because once the flood mitigation project is completed, the flash flood problem at the Mile 7 Old Bazaar should be resolved.

“I hope that DAP (Democratic Action Party) will refrain from petty rhetoric and poking their noses into issues where others have already taken concrete steps to resolve.

“DAP being part of Madani Government should concentrate on securing federal funding to resolve the numerous other problems in N12 Kota Sentosa and monitor, supervise and follow up on the projects secured through their own effort,” said Yap in a press statement.

Yap was at the Mile 7 Old Bazaar to meet up with Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) officers in charge of the implementation of the RM1.1 million project to alleviate flash flooding problems. It was funded with Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme allocation.

Yap requested for the meeting at the project site he received complaints on traffic congestion due to the closure of the road at the project site.

During the visit, Yap requested the MPP officers to supervise and monitor the contractor closely for full compliance with the contract terms to keep inconveniences to the public at the minimum. — DayakDaily
