SERIAN, Aug 31: The people ought to remain positive about the various initiatives by the Federal and State governments to tackle Covid-19, says Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Willie Mongin.

He said there were people who like to look for controversies like spreading fake news.

“We need to work together and assist the government to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, instead of creating controversies like spreading fake news,” Willie said today.

The Puncak Borneo MP said this when officiating at the Kuching district ‘Program Merdeka@Komuniti 2020’ function at Kg Peraya Community Hall in Padawan, near here.

He added that the people need to work together to preserve unity with the spirit of tolerancy, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also said that Malaysians have shown unity to celebrate National Day with pride and dignity.

He noted this was shown by the people in Sarawak who also joined in to celebrate the day.

“Eventhough we have different dates for Independence, we have come together celebrating this National Day together for the sake of comradeship as Malaysians.”

He noted that Sarawak celebrates her Independence Day on July 22.

At the event, Willie presented a cheque for RM50,000 to Kg Peraya, RM20,000 for its Village Development and Security Committee, RM20,000 for Persatuan Pinyawa and RM10,000 for St Anthony Church in the village. — DayakDaily
