KUCHING, Sept 28: The Village Community Management Council (MPKK) should be implemented immediately in Sarawak so that Sarawakians will not be excluded from the development plans of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
In expressing the support for the setting up of MPKK, Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin claimed that it was not the PH government that divide the villagers but Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government who did so by prohibiting grassroots leaders from attending any functions organised by the federal government.
“So how do we go about spreading and implementing federal government development policies and programmes for the people at the village level without the cooperation from grassroots leaders?,” he questioned in a media statement today.
“Why is it necessary for JKKK leaders to be barred from interacting, if the GPS opposition is not afraid of its own shadow?” he further asked.
Willie said he sympathised with those village chiefs who honestly wanted to bring development into the village but became the victims of circumstances as they were prohibited to do so.
“Only with the coming MPKK, will we be able to successfully implement the PH government development programme,” he added.
“We do not want to establish the MPKK, but the actions of the opposition GPS has forced us to continue,” he alleged.
Noting that many will disagree with him, Willie however said he will respect the dissenting views and the rights of those who opposed.
“We will mobilise all government machinery, all government agencies, NGOs to help protect the future of Sarawak’s people. The time is now,” he emphasised.
“Don’t let those masquerading as Sarawak fighters ruin Sarawak’s chances of development. Because we are all Sarawakians and defenders of Sarawak, our land. We will continue to fight for Sarawak,” he added.— DayakDaily
