Wildfire burn 80ha of pineapple plantation in Marudi, multiple blazes ongoing across S’wak

KUCHING, July 29: An uncontrolled fire has spread and destroyed approximately 80.15 hectares of a pineapple plantation in Marudi amid the ongoing hot and dry weather.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak reported that the fire began on Saturday (July 26) and has now entered its fourth day, with firefighting operations still underway.

In a separate incident, a forest fire has been burning at a former landfill site in Kampung Plaie, Kota Samarahan since July 27, scorching around four hectares of land.

Meanwhile, fires continue to burn near UiTM Mukah since July 25 and at a landfill near Kampung Jerijih in Tanjung Manis since Monday (July 28), each affecting approximately two hectares.

Bomba teams remain deployed at all affected locations as efforts to contain and extinguish the fires continue. — DayakDaily
