KUCHING, March 8: ‘Where there is a woman, there is magic’—this quote by American playwright and poet Ntozake Shange was used by Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi to extend his International Women’s Day greeting.
In a post on Facebook, Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, said regardless of who they are, all women should be celebrated for their resilience, courage, and achievements.
“This is because women, as the backbones of families, communities, and the world, are always inspiring and educating others, as well as bringing positive change.
“I wish all women a Happy International Women’s Day and wish for them to continue moving forward with resilience, building dreams and creating meaningful legacies for future generations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said women of the new era are like resilient roses— blooming in their brilliance, pursuing dreams, inspiring others, and paving the way for future generations with unparalleled opportunities and freedom.
In a Facebook post, Tiong said that a woman’s success is not just a personal achievement but also a crucial step towards building a more equitable and inclusive society.
“As times change, gender equality has become a key marker of societal progress.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us honour all women in our society, those who are pushing the boundaries of excellence in the workplace, bringing up families as full-time homemakers or the many who are balancing both.
“Through their actions, wisdom, and experience, they demonstrate resilience, talent, and invaluable contributions,” he said.
Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, said the significance of International Women’s Day is in recognising women’s strength, encouraging them to take charge of their destinies, and celebrating their achievements.
“On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all women for their contributions to our community and wish everyone a Happy International Women’s Day!” he said.
