KUCHING, Oct 30: There is no personal interest in play for choosing Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates, says chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the coalition’s candidates chosen to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15) would reflect their own qualifications to represent the people.

“GPS is well structured. And when we place candidates, there is no personal interest there.

“It is meant for the people so that you have a qualified (candidate) who is also people-centric,” he said during a press conference after launching GPS Women Machinery at Penview Convention Centre in Demak today.

He concurred on the visibility of GPS’ confidence level ahead of GE15 but explained that the momentum had always been like that since they started serving the people and delivering promises.

“But of course lah, we don’t be too arrogant. Sarawak has 31 (parliamentary seats), so we contest in all 31. So when you contest in all 31 seats, surely you want to win,” he added.

GPS comprises of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Traditionally, PBB has 14 seats, seven for SUPP, six for PRS, and four for PDP. — DayakDaily
