KUCHING, Oct 30: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate list for the 15th General Election (GE15) has been cleared by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), says GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

However, the list is still not finalised as it is pending clearance from Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Department of Insolvency.

Responding to a reporter’s query, Abang Johari said the status of the candidate list can be interpreted as 99.9 per cent completed.

“We still have just one or two (candidates) left to be shortlisted.

“We are also awaiting clearance. I got the clearance from MACC but I have yet to get (clearance) from Insolvency and PDRM,” he told a press conference after launching the GPS Women election machinery at Penview Convention Centre in Demak here today.

Asked if there is also vetting process by the religious authorities, Abang Johari said he will have to ask the Sarawak Islamic Council first as some matters are not relevant to Sarawak.

On Oct 28, Abang Johari said that the finalised GPS candidate list will be announced on Nov 3. — DayakDaily
