Wee: MBKS to revitalise century-old Jalan Padungan to enliven its glory

KUCHING, Oct 22: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is working on revitalising Jalan Padungan to enliven the century-old road and area to its glory.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the undertaking is part of the council’s beautification activity with Padungan selected as the model.


“Why Padungan? It is because Padungan is the oldest area in MBKS jurisdiction,” he told reporters when met after the tree planting ceremony held along Jalan Padungan, here today.

The council is planting 40 saplings along Jalan Padungan to replace the old trees that had been fell, and putting up lightings on 15 existing trees to brighten the area.

Wee added that MBKS is also currently improving its parks and gardens areas under its jurisdiction to provide better social and relaxation space for the people.

“We call for the local residents here to cooperate and work together with us in improving this area, and making this street which is almost 100 years old alive again,” he added.

Meanwhile, MBKS councillor Kho Teck Wan disclosed, prior to the pandemic, the council has initiated a tree planting effort near SJK Chung Hua in Pending.

The purpose, she said, was to reduce the noise pollution in the area which in turn would also improve the learning environment at the school and provide betterment for the nearby community. – DayakDaily.
