Wedding ceremony sparks 68 Covid-19 cases at Kampung Binyu in Kuching

KUCHING, April 3: A wedding ceremony at Kampung Binyu in Jalan Tanjung Bako here has sparked an outbreak of 68 Covid-19 cases so far.

This, thus, led to the creation of Kampung Binyu Cluster in Kuching today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily report on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, informed that the cluster was traced to three symptomatic individuals identified as Case 16,214, Case 16,194 and Case 16,196.

The cases tested positive following screening at health facilities in Kuching and Bintulu on March 30.

Initial investigation discovered that the cases have attended the wedding ceremony at Kampung Binyu.

Active case detection and screening on all close contacts, family members and casual contacts to the cases yielded 65 cases, out of which 57 cases detected in Kuching and four cases in Samarahan today.

As of today, SDMC reported that a total of 231 individuals have been screened whereby 163 were negative while no test results were pending.

All the positive cases are isolated and treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Bintulu Hospital while close contacts are isolated at designated facilities for quarantine purposes and Covid-19 screenings.

With one new cluster declared today, Sarawak now has 37 active clusters out of which 11 clusters have reported increase in daily infections today.

The 11 clusters are Jalan Tanjung Kidurong (2 cases), Kampung Baru Hilir (2 cases in Bintulu and 1 case in Samarahan), Jalan Tanjung (1 case), Jalan Kingsway (9 cases), Jalan Merpati (3 cases), Bulatan Aman (2 cases), Jalan Sanyan (2 cases), Batu Gong (12 cases), Chupak (4 cases), Taman Vistagro (1 case) and Rajang (1 case). — DayakDaily
