KUCHING, July 10: A 32-year-old woman was fined RM1,000 or, in default, two weeks in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to causing a public disturbance during a wedding reception in May.
Felicia Vkline Jari admitted to the charge under Section 160 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.
Felicia was the last of four former secondary schoolmates charged over the incident, which took place around 10pm on May 17, 2025, outside a restaurant along Jalan Penrissen.
The other three — Addlina Asnan, Marie Paye Steve, and Jacquline Murudan — had earlier been convicted and fined the same amount or face two weeks behind bars.
According to the facts of the case, the four women got into a heated argument during the wedding event, which escalated into a physical altercation that disturbed public peace.
Tensions reportedly flared when Marie and Jacquline approached Addlina and Felicia to discuss a misunderstanding.
The discussion quickly turned hostile after someone accused Marie of making disparaging remarks about another individual in the group.
During the scuffle, Marie’s hair was pulled, and she was punched and kicked. Addlina allegedly struck her on the head and arm with a tree branch and a sandal. Felicia and Addlina were also said to have kicked Jacquline in the stomach.
All four sustained minor injuries as a result of the fight. Marie later lodged a police report, prompting an investigation.
The police determined that the brawl took place just outside the restaurant premises and was witnessed by several members of the public.
Prosecution was led by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin. Felicia was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
