KUCHING, March 1: A thunderstorm alert was issued for 15 districts throughout Sarawak until 7pm.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in an advisory issued at 4.20pm today, said the affected districts are Sibu, Selangau, Mukah, Daro, Matu, Dalat, Mukah, Kapit, Song, Bintulu, Tatau, Miri, Telang Usan, Marudi, and Limbang.
The department said a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with a rain intensity greater than 20mm/hour approaching or expected to last for more than an hour.
It added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a maximum of six hours per release.
Earlier today, MetMalaysia said based on the analysis of weather models, wind concentration is expected to occur in Sarawak, the situation could cause an increase in humidity that could potentially bring continuous rain in Central and Southern Sarawak.
Accordingly, a Persistent Rain Warning (Waspada) was also issued for Sarawak and is effective until March 3, 2024. — DayakDaily
