KUCHING, Oct 6: Parti Persatuan Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing is stepping up its election machinery ahead of the coming State Election, with its chief Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah saying the wing is committed to helping Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secure a bigger mandate than in the previous polls.
Fatimah said the wing must be fully prepared as the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sits from Oct 12 to 21, with its term nearing the end and the next election looming.
At the PBB Women’s Supreme Council Meeting No. 6/2026 at the party headquarters here today, she said discussions focused on strengthening the women’s machinery, particularly branch-level women’s chiefs who play a key role in the party’s election preparations.
She also said that programmes such as Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) had equipped the members with knowledge and skills on Sarawak’s development, through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) ahead of the election, as well as ‘Kamek Prihatin, Kitak Penting’ which brings welfare services directly to communities.
“As party machinery, we must have information, we must have knowledge, and we must have skills. The narrative is important, knowledge is important, and skills are important,” she said.
She added that the coming election would involve an increase in the number of voters, making new skills increasingly important for the party machinery.
Three briefings were also scheduled at the meeting, covering the ‘Kamek Prihatin, Kitak Penting’ programme in the Miri zone, Polling and Counting Agents (PACA) by former Sarawak Election Commission director Datu Takun, and election-related skills by Semariang Branch secretary Sulhii Salleh.
Fatimah stressed that preparations must be planned early to ensure the women’s machinery remained organised, structured and efficient.
She said the wing would leverage its diligence, hard work, loyalty, and close community ties to share the progress achieved under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
She also added the wing stood firmly behind Abang Johari, with the goal of securing a bigger GPS mandate.
On female representation, Fatimah said more women should be represented in politics, but only those with calibre and merit should be considered.
“Winnable candidates, that is what is being emphasised. Because when we go to war, we must win, and to win, we must have winnable candidates,” she said. — DayakDaily
