KUCHING, March 23: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has reiterated that the proposed bipartisan committee between the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is an opportunity to demonstrate sincerity through collaboration on Sarawak’s oil and gas (O&G) resources.
He emphasised that the initiative is not about political affiliations but about ensuring Sarawakians fully benefit from their rights over natural resources.
“When it comes to the rights of Sarawak, this issue goes beyond party politics. It is important that all of us, in our different strengths, come together not only to reclaim what is right but also to ensure that those rights are enjoyed by all Sarawakians.
“The sincerity that we can show can be seen if there is a tangible collaboration between us,” he said during the Cahaya Ramadan programme organised at Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman @ Tabuan Foochow today.
His remarks were in response to Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof’s rejection of the proposal, citing doubts over DAP’s sincerity in initiating such collaboration.
Dr Yii further described the bipartisan committee as a means to bridge differences between the two parties and work collectively for Sarawak’s best interests.
“Differences of opinion do not mean that there cannot be collaboration. Differences should strengthen us.
“While we may have different methods, the end goal remains the same – we want what is best for Sarawak. And I think the best way to prove our sincerity is by truly working together,” he added.
The proposal by DAP’s youth wing, DAPSY, seeks to facilitate dialogue and cooperation between both parties to ensure Sarawak’s oil and gas resources are managed in a way that maximizes benefits for the State and its people.
However, with PBB’s reluctance, it remains to be seen whether the initiative will gain traction in the near future. – DayakDaily
