KUCHING, July 24: The Sarawak River near Kuching Waterfront here is expected to be lit up in colorful lights on July 29 as a parade of decorated floats will be held in conjunction with 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence celebration.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the long-awaited event will see the participation of 20 government departments and agencies.
Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Maritime and Riverine) Dato Henry Harry Jinep said the event will start at 8.15pm with an opening performance by jet skis, followed by a ‘perahu tambang’ parade and decorated boat competition.
“The champion boat would also make a stop in front of Kuching Waterfront on July 30 until midnight to allow members of the public to see the boat at close-range,” he said at a press conference held at Baitulmakmur Building here today.
Henry who is also the deputy minister in charge of the parade stated that the event would be graced by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He also said there would be a stage performance by Sarawak-born Malaysian artistes Dayang Nurfaizah and Hafiz Suip. — DayakDaily
