KUCHING, March 13: Wan Shardini Wan Salleh becomes the first Sarawakian to be appointed as a new member for the board of directors of the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM).
The letter of appointment, effective from Feb 4 this year, was presented by Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at a ceremony in Kampung Buntal Community Centre, here today.
During the ceremony, Wan Junaidi noted Wan Shardini’s presence on SKM’s board would help in the development of the state’s cooperative sector.
According to him, Sarawak is a huge state and therefore has it own sets of challenges.
“I hope by having a Sarawakian appointed on as one of SKM’s board members, he would be able to assist the commission to have a better understanding on Sarawak and subsequently help improve the state’s cooperative sector,” he said.
Wan Shardini holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia and Master’s Degree in Science (Timber Technology) from University College, North Wales in the United Kingdom.
He had served the Sarawak Forestry Department for 34 years, where his last position was as Sarawak Forestry deputy director. — DayakDaily
